My favorite photographers tend to be the street photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson. I also have a special place in my heart for documentary photographers / photojournalists like Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and many of the old Time – Life photographers. The emotional impact of their photography is undeniable.
In that tradition, I recently discovered the work of Gigi Cohen and Alan Chin. Cohen has a gallery on Haiti’s restavecs, children that are sold to become domestic servants. If you have the time, listen to the powerful story she narrated for National Public Radio. Alan Chin has a war diary that he kept while shooting photographs in the war zone of Kosovo. I came upon both names when my friend Didi S. Dubelye W.,
a screenwriter and photographer, put me onto an interesting online
social network that has a heavy photojournalist flavor to it.
